We work to support human rights and development efforts around the world

The International Institute for Rights and Development is a neutral and impartial Swiss-based international organization concentrating on shaping policies and providing technical assistance in developing countries; promoting social justice, conflict mediation, and rights which have been neglected. IRDG is in consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (UN ECOSOC) since 2018.

Human rights are all encompassing, including civil, political, economic, social, and cultural rights. These rights have been formally and universally recognized through the 1948 Universal Declaration of Human Rights while being reaffirmed through many treaties and declarations since. Additionally, development is a human right that belongs to everyone. In 1986, the UN Declaration on the Right to Development, proclaimed that everyone is “entitled to participate in, contribute to, and enjoy economic, social, cultural and political development, in which all human rights and fundamental freedoms can be fully realized.” Connecting human rights with sustainable development is vital because without core principles such as non-discrimination, participation, security, and rule of law then basic human rights such as the right to life and liberty, work and education, and freedom of opinion and expression will not be achieved.

From Theory to Practice

We concentrate on shaping policies and providing technical assistance to developing countries. Our projects aim to enable citizens to work together towards achieving common social and economic goals. We work on the ground to develop resilient institutions by promoting peaceful and inclusive systems.

Our projects span the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, but we focus primarily on SDGs 3, 4, and 16. We continuously support the development of strong institutions which work towards ensuring better health and well-being. It is impossible to improve the livelihoods of local communities without inclusive and equitable education around local economic and social issues.

Our FlagShip Project

Our FlagShip Project is a development program which contributes directly to the sustainable development goals. In Tulkram, Palestine we are supporting the implementation of the Communal and Social Center which works to promote better living standards and a peaceful community for children and families. As violence escalates in the region, the young population is especially exposed to the threat and impact of conflicts and insecurity. This Communal and Social Center will be a safe location to educate the local children and families who have been impacted by violence and oppressive actions.
